Woody Woodpecker Movie Developing at Universal

Guess who? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal and Illumination Entertainment -- the animation hub behind 'Despicable Me' and 'Hop' among others -- will team up again to produce a big-screen version of Woody Woodpecker. Debuting in 1940 (with the voice of Mel Blanc), the Woody Woodpecker cartoons rose to prominence throughout the next twenty years. Lots of that had to do with the cartoon's iconic theme, the only song ever from a short film to get nominated for an Academy Award. Reached for comment, the movie-less Porky Pig said, "That's all, folks," before storming away. [via THR/Heat Vision] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook
